Mount Lemmon
Tucson
It is about 9,000 feet from the desert base of the mountain
with its giant saguaro cactus to its heady and fire-stormed
treetops at its peak. While the mid-May temperature is
100 degrees in the valley, piles of snow are melting on
the shaded mountaintop. At some overlooks we see
abandoned trucks and cars that have gone over the
edge and have irretrievably tumbled into the rocky abyss.
The $5 road fee is only a suggestion, not mandatory.
